Embrace Your Unnormal Journey
Poems from the mind of a shattered skull and the stories behind his words.
Poems from the mind of a shattered skull and the stories behind his words.

Some stories make you think. Some make you laugh. Others stay with you long after you’ve finished reading them.
This is a place for all of that.
Here, you’ll discover poetry, personal stories, reflections, and books inspired by the unexpected moments that shape a life. Some words may come from difficult seasons. Others may come from moments of humor, hope, curiosity, or simply seeing the world a little differently.
As you explore, you’ll find stories that are personal but never meant to be lived alone. They are meant to be shared, felt, and perhaps even recognized in your own experiences.
Whether you’re here for a poem, a story, a new book, or simply curious about what comes next, there’s always something waiting between the lines.
Read a little. Feel something. Take something with you.

I spent my career as a CAL FIRE Deputy Fire Chief, a life built around serving others, leading through difficult moments, and knowing what to say when words mattered most. I never imagined that finding those words would one day become one of my greatest challenges.
After COVID left me with a significant brain injury, my life changed in ways I never expected. I faced loss, recovery, memory challenges, and moments when the words I wanted to say simply would not come.
Somewhere in that struggle, I found something unexpected.
I found my voice through writing.
What began as a way to capture thoughts that were difficult to speak became a way to process life, preserve memories, and express what I could not always say out loud.
Today, I turn my experiences, thoughts, and emotions into poetry and stories that explore the moments that challenge us, change us, and remind us what truly matters.
I share these words not because I have all the answers, but because I believe our stories can connect us. Somewhere between the pages, you may recognize a feeling, a memory, or even a piece of your own journey.
Sometimes, the words we struggle to find are the ones most worth sharing.
Zora Neale Hurston

I used to run into burning buildings for a living. Now I write poems about the day my brain didn’t come back the same as the rest of me. Neither one of us saw that coming. Nobody hands you a manual when this happens. You get a discharge sheet, a follow up appointment three weeks out, and a lot of people telling you that you look fine. You do look fine. That’s part of the problem. This isn’t a book about fixing yourself. It’s a book about the line, the one between who you were and who you are now, and what it actually feels like to cross it.
Some of it is going to make you laugh. Some of it is going to knock the wind out of you. That’s on purpose. That’s how it actually went. I’m not a doctor, a therapist, or anybody’s guru. I’m a retired fire chief who got hit by something invisible and had to figure out how to keep leading anyway. If you’re standing on your own side of that line right now, wondering if anybody else made it across, I did. Come on over. I saved you a seat.

Some journeys are lived. Some are written. And soon, one very personal journey will find its way into your hands.
